Handcrafted by women artisans from the Tonga tribe living in Northern Zimbabwe’s Zambezi Valley. Beading is done by Zulu women in South Africa.
We work directly with a group of 30 Tonga master craft women to bring you the finest Tonga baskets. These basket vase bowls are woven by hand from Ilala palm fibers native to Zimbabwe. Tonga baskets are woven using the over and under style of simple weaving and a 20 inch diameter basket can take around 2 weeks to complete, which provides a sustainable source of income for their families.
Tonga Baskets feature a versatile palette of a natural tan and brown color.
