Wakanda 5 Was a Huge Success in Celebration of African Culture, Community, and the Arts in Westchester
September 3rd was an incredible day in celebration of African heritage, cultural pride, and community at the 5th annual Wakanda Celebration.
This annual celebration was hosted by Luangisa African Gallery with partnerships from Westchester County Government, Arts Westchester, and MWF NewYork.
Guests enjoyed shopping from local vendors, such as Alexander Boyce, Until It's Gone, Africa Boutik, Heart with the Art, Dolly's Natural Essentials, Mount Vernon Health Center, the Mount Vernon Public Library, and much more. They also had the opportunity to enter raffles in support of the soon-to-be-opened, Luangisa African Museum Cultural Arts Center.
The food was also incredible as guests enjoyed food from Out of Afrika Cuisine, Chef Ed, desserts from Kimberly Sanchez, vegetarian delights from Veggie Grub, and delicious bites from The Boss with Da Sauce.
Kids also had a wonderful time blast in the Wakanda Children's Village where they enjoyed a collection of free mechanical and inflatable rides, face painting, books from the Mount Vernon Public Library, LEGOs, and much more.
The live music and performances keep everyone moving as guests enjoyed drumming, dancing, singing, and more. This included the Libation Opening of the Way, Dr. Garvey & The Scrubs, youth performances featuring The Revelators Dance Troupe, Tina Kakolaki & Ware Ware Music Band, Bokandeye African American Dance Theater, Gena Roots Band, PitsiRa Ragophala YaMabala & Live Band: “A global fashion experience, and more.
Admirers of African-inspired trends were in awe as they watched the stunning looks before their eyes in the Luangisa Wearable Art Fashion Show. Along with music from PitsiRa Ragophala YaMabala & Live Band, guests enjoyed a curated collection of African fashion capsules featuring African Weddings, Liberation Wear, Majestic Kings and Queens, Traditional Warrior Outfits, African Accessories, and Contemporary African Wear.
The Wakanda 5 Celebration was a wonderful day of community, Africa, children, and culture.
