Kwere Fertility Doll 02
African dolls across the continent are created for young girls to play with and as a charm to ensure fertility in women.
The Kwere doll is used for initiation rites and girls education by the Doe and Kwere people of Tanzania. The females keep the dolls during their period of seclusion and coming out ceremonies. After the ceremony the young woman hangs the figure around her neck or holds it in her hand. If the woman cannot have children, she will use the doll as a surrogate child until a real one is conceived.
